Hmm, not sure that I've ever seen/heard anything like this. Would be easiest to turn one, but can't say I've ever thought of using a router. I have seen, however, a 'router lathe' that could probably rough up a sphere of sorts, but you'd likely be left with lots of sharp edges and such.
